When searching for the perfect wedding gown. At The Wedding Dress, we make shopping for your

special day “an experience and not a Decision” Shopping for a wedding gown should be celebratory and

a wonderful moment sharing with your best I DO CREW!!

We live in a digital world and browsing online is an important part to see what kind of gown you are

drawn to for your wedding day. However shopping at a Bridal Salon, The Wedding Dress, has so many

benefits. You will have your own bridal room, your own stylist and a comfortable place for your I DO

CREW to sit and admire you in EVERY gown!

The Wedding Dress has put a few things together as to what to expect and some rules to follow.

Schedule an Appointment in Advanced , We do require appointments, it is very difficult to

accommodate a walk in to give her the full experience. You can always call last minute to see if there are

any cancellations Weekends are the busiest day for “SAYING YES TO THE DRESS” If you can make a

weekday appointment, we have less appointments and are more accommodating.

Do your Research , Look at our designers. We have a full page of gowns in different silhouettes,

colors and materials to browse. Knowing your price point. At The Wedding Dress our average gown is

around $1599.00. We have some gowns as low as $1199.00 for special order up to $3500.00. We do

have gowns to sell off the rack that range from $899.00 - $1500.00. OTR means that particular gown is

yours so we need to make sure the size is appropriate for you. Be upfront with your budget At TWD we

take your budget seriously. We like to keep you in that budget and not intimidate you with higher price

gowns. Timeline is also something to take in consideration. The ideal time is 1 year to have your gown

selected. It usually takes 6-8 months for a gown to ship and you will need to allow at least 3 months for

alterations. The Wedding Dress is one of the only Bridal Boutiques in the Rochester area to offer

alterations in house. This doesn't mean that you can take it to whomever you would like for alterations

and that you need to use TWD for alterations. It means we offer the service which is convenient for most

brides, but it also helps in purchasing your gown with our expert advice for changes and sizing.

Stick with a Small Entourage , ( I DO CREW), Trying multiple gowns can be overwhelming

for not only you but also others in the store and your Stylist. Your Stylist is concentrating on you and

your needs to make you happy and try what you want to try. To minimize too many opinions that could

cloud your judgment, stick to about 4 or less of your closest who will have you in mind and encourage

you look for your special day.

Share Your Honest Opinion , Your stylist may pull some gowns that you do not like from the

hanger However she may have pulled the gown based on what you have described to her. Sometimes

this is THE ONE, other times you just hate it. Be honest with your Stylist of what you like about a gown

and dislike. Don't talk yourself or let someone else talk you into a style or something you just do not

like. The Stylist, at TWD, knows all the gowns on the rack and will continue to pull until you find the

ONE!

Be Mindful of the Consultants Time , TWD end goal is for you to be satisfied with your wedding

gown purchase. We also understand that it is a big decision However if you prepare for your visit with

the steps above you will come with a great plan to find your gown and be considerate of your Stylist

time. Be prepared to purchase Sometimes you do need to think, but TWD asks that your respect the time

and effort and the planning that goes along with assisting you in trying gowns and guiding you through a

big decision. It is part of the experience!

The Wedding Dress also asks that you do not bring any outside food or drinks as accidents can be very

costly. We usually allow 2 hours for a visit Some visits last a bit long and some are not as long TWD

asks that you and your I DO CREW arrive on-time for your scheduled visit to be respectful of others and

their time. At this time TWD does ask that you do not bring small children to a visit as it is often hard for

them to sit a length of time and not touch or run around the store.

Alterations are available at TWD. We have limited availability and we require at least 3 mos. We do

have other very skilled seamstress that we recommend in various locations to TWD. Typically a bride will

need 3 appointments and they run usually about an hour Part of the alterations process is storing the

gown and steaming and pressing your gown. We also sell sell Wedding Gown Preservation for after your

wedding to store your gown.

Wedding dress shopping, however, isn’t all that easy. Sure, we’ve all heard the stories of mom and her daughter the bride-to-be, the moment that the perfect dress is tried on. There isn’t a dry eye in the place. But the fact that often gets left out is all the trial and tribulation that took place before that final selection was made.

It isn’t all that unusual for a bride to try on at least four to seven dresses . In some cases, a bride may try on ten or more. Though those first few visits can be a lot of fun, over time, it can turn into a stressful situation as the bride starts to fear that the right dress just doesn’t exist. So, how can you make sure that you try on the right dresses from the get-go, and limit the experience to prevent confusion, exhaustion, and frustration?

The secret to finding the right wedding dress

Perhaps the most important step in finding the right wedding gown is in setting a budget. Once that budget is identified (and make sure it is a real budget with a real cap so that you stick to it), it means that you can narrow down your selections faster and avoid trying dresses that are far outside of your comfortable budget. And, in addition to identifying the budget, the other key factor is timing. Start looking for your wedding dress no more than 12 months before the big day. Wedding Traditions You’ve Never Heard Of

America is a true melting pot. Though the whole notion of the “melting pot” to describe a culture or nation came about back in the late 1700s. Then, it took off in the early 1900s to describe the fusion of nationalities, cultures, and ethnicities across our country. Because of the diversity of those who live in the United States, foods, activities, behaviors, and so much more have been altered and shifted a bit from how they were historically. And with weddings, it is no different.

Wedding traditions that really are a thing

Most Americans are familiar with the Jewish tradition of stepping on the glass to represent the destruction of the Jewish temple in Jerusalem. But the beautiful aspect of this tradition is its symbolism that pieces of shattered glass can never be repaired to their original state. Thus, marriage is an irrevocable bond between a wife and her husband. But there are many lesser-known traditions too.

Here is a list of five traditions that are new to you, but really are a thing.

1) Can you imagine sawing a log on your wedding day? In Germany, this tradition consists of the bride and groom working together with a hand saw to saw through a large log. The tradition represents the success of the newlyweds working through their first challenge together. This activity is all about teamwork with family, friends, and other loved ones cheering on the couple from the sidelines.

2) In South Africa, twelve symbolic items are incorporated into the wedding ceremony. These items include a bible, salt, pepper, wheat, wine, a broom, a spear, a spoon, bitter herbs, honey, a shield, and a pot. Similar to the concept of the German log, each of these items represents a challenge that the couple will need to face during their marriage. We’ll leave it to you to determine what each item symbolizes.

3) What if you were the mother of the bride and your new son-in-law gifted you with ducks or geese? Well, today that might be a bit shocking. But historically, this was a traditional gift that was expected and well received. Thankfully, this South Korean tradition has been replaced by gifting wooden ducks or geese instead of real ones.

4) Sweden perhaps offers one of the sweetest traditions, and this practice is actually a common occurrence at many American weddings. Though many brides and grooms don’t realize it, the tradition of the couple stealing a kiss whenever a glass is dinged actually came from Sweden. But, the part that most Americans don’t realize is also the tradition is that anytime the bride or groom leaves the room of the other (during the reception), guests can go steal a kiss from the remaining newlywed.

5) In India, the bride and groom remove their shoes when entering the mandap where the wedding ceremony will take place. Then, the groom’s shoes are stolen by the bride’s sisters or cousins, and the groom must pay a ransom to get them back so that he can leave with shoes. What the payment was to be, is not entirely clear.

The garter tradition

Now, one tradition that we’re probably all familiar with is the garter toss. However, the history of the garter toss is a bit unclear. Some stories of where this tradition came from are simply not repeatable. Better versions of the story include one that originated in France and England. Historically, guests would try to obtain a piece of the bride’s dress for good luck. With the fear of the bride’s dress being ripped to shreds, the groom took to the garter as a way of tossing a piece of the bride’s wedding attire to guests in the crowd as the bride and groom fled their reception.

3 Tips for Planning the Perfect Wedding

Weddings continue to be viewed as the biggest and most important day of your life. And as such, it is no surprise that the average wedding today is nearing $40,000. Millennials, in particular, are looking for that wow factor in their wedding. Not only that, but today’s weddings get a lot of notice and tend to infiltrate social media. For that reason alone, the expectation that the wedding will be a monumental moment to remember, is fitting, to say the least.

How to plan the perfect wedding

If you’re planning your wedding and want to make it a day to remember, there are many ways to do just that, regardless of how much you want to spend. In order to make sure your day is perfect, consider these tips.

1) Set your wedding date and stick to it – According to The Knot, a trusted online authority for all things wedding-related, the typical engagement period lasts for 14.5 months. This is the average amount of time that couples need to plan their wedding. Considering that wedding planning usually needs to take place alongside day to day life and obligations, this really isn’t that long of a time period for such a large event. That said, one of the biggest obstacles to marrying at anytime less than 14.5 months comes down to finding the right venue available on the date that you want.

2) Identify your budget – Now, this could easily become the number one step and could be more important than setting your wedding date. But this really depends on how you look at it. When you get married, the general goal is that the marriage will last forever. This means that the particular date you picked will be celebrated every year as you commemorate your years together. Thus, picking the date is absolutely critical. Further, you need to ensure the ceremony will take time at the time of year that you want and that it aligns with when you will want to celebrate going forward. So, after that date is set, you need to determine how much money with which you have to work. With today’s weddings, brides and grooms are footing more and more of the bill, which means that the parents of the bride no longer need to worry about taking out another mortgage on their home. Therefore, you need to identify the various wedding expenses and who will be paying for what. Be sure that your list includes (in the least) ceremony expenses, wedding attire, flowers and decorations, photography, prewedding events, rings, the wedding reception (inclusive of venue, catering, and bartending costs), transportation, and the honeymoon. Once this has all been identified, it will be easier to take the next steps.

3) Determine the venue and menu – This will by far be the most expensive portion of your wedding day. Most venues have a cost of their own to reserve space. Then you will also need to take on the cost of the catering and bartending services, and whatever expenses that they have to put on your perfect day. The great news is that once this is done, you will have achieved a massive accomplishment and can then take more time to work through the remaining details. Venues, caterers, and bartending staff can only handle so many events in a day, so be sure to lock them in sooner than later. Not only that, but in many cases, the venue coordinator and catering contact can provide you with recommendations on where to reserve or purchase the other items you may need – all because they are experts in the space and have been there done that a few times.

Getting in front of your wedding day is really a must. Some couples can get married on a tight budget or for next to nothing other than the cost of a justice of the peace . But if you are looking for a grand experience that makes a statement, the sooner you get the date set, identify your budget, and land on your venue and caterer, the easier the rest of the planning will be.
